A Romantic Surprise Christmas Wedding!

A surprise wedding? “That can’t possibly be!,” was the response Jacqueline most often got to her wild idea. She and Chris had been engaged for some time and kept trying to schedule their wedding. But life managed to get in the way, including Jacqueline’s bout with appendicitis!

Finally Jacqueline decided to come to us to put together a magical and utterly fabulous Christmastime wedding on the anniversary of when she and Chris met – that Chris wouldn’t know about until the night before. (She knew there was no chance he would object!). The guests did not know it was a wedding until Jacqueline descended the stairs at the glamorous Oxford Hotel in her wedding gown – thinking they were just coming to a fancy Christmas party!

The beautiful ceremony and reception at the Oxford went off flawlessly. We collaborated with Jacqueline to create a Scottish/Irish theme, celebrating the couple’s joint heritage. We searched diligently until we found a supplier of the right fabric in Chris’s proper family tartan, with which Jacqueline herself fabricated gorgeous table runners and accents. The tartan theme blended perfectly with the Oxford’s lavish Christmas decor and gorgeous floral, candles and lighting by Love Letters Floral Design. The Reverend Kim Tavendale helped to create the perfect Celtic ceremony, which featured both a tying of the knot, and a stone ceremony, through which guests pass on their good wishes to the couple. Michael Lancaster, bagpiper extraordinaire, was on the pipes, adding great majesty and flair to the ceremony.

The surprised and very happy groom!

Chris, as any good Celt, also really enjoys a fine Scotch whisky.  We therefore arranged another surprise in the form of a wonderful tasting of fine single malt Scotch whiskies, hosted by Sean Kenyon of Williams & Graham.

We should add that we had only a month to put together this amazing Denver wedding! So while early planning is always great, don’t hesitate to come to us with last minute ideas, however crazy they might seem!
