Throughout this year, the Save the Date Event’s Team has rolled up our sleeves to get down and dirty with some of our favorite venues and vendors. This month we took an inside look at Catering By Design and learned just how much work goes into every wedding or event, and every tasting.
We learned many amazing things during our tour at CBD, in particular their desire to source lots of products locally. They get almost all of their produce from Chatfield Botanic Gardens. The majority of their dairy items are produced locally. [They lovingly refer to a special menu called the “100-Mile Menu“. Every item from this menu comes from within a hundred-mile radius – and comes at a bit of a cost.]
In addition to loving what’s local, they also prioritize training for their staff – all of their chefs are trained by the chef/owner himself, Cade Nagy. CBD also has a creative side, with many rental items available for rental, a builder on-staff and an in-house florist.
We also got to spend some time in the kitchen and had the pleasure of prepping 150 chicken skewers, which gave us a deep appreciation for the labor-intensiveness that goes into completely prepping for an event. We did the math and estimated it took more than twice the time to prep an item it would take guests to consume in half the time at an event!!
What a great insight this tour was, thanks to Danielle at Catering by Design for giving us behind-the-scenes access.
We love the range of styles that our clients have – everything from the comfort and organic feeling of farm-to-table to the elegant and sophisticated ballroom luxury! Colorado brides are as diverse as our nation, but we have found some very specific trends that are unique to our beautiful state.
Mountain Luxury – Combining the rustic with the ruffled can be so eloquently done! Adding a splash of glitter to a pinecone or pairing a sweet feminine cake on a rugged tree slice cake stand are just a few simple ways to create a luxury mountain vibe. We love how mountain luxury can be gender neutral as well – your fiancé can get involved in cutting the wood or locating fallen branches or pinecones while you and your planner add the glitz!
Bringing the Inside, Out – We have all heard of al fresco dining. This is accurately and specifically defined as, dining outdoors. We all love to dine outdoors in moderate temperatures. But this is rather different! It is bringing the inside, out! Many of our clients love to locate a perfect spot of land for their wedding and make use of a clear-topped tent. The tent can be fully equipped with everything that you would normally find indoors – tables, chairs, lighting and food. But the view you are surrounded by is panoramic outdoors!
Winter Weddings – Colorado is not the only state that boasts a beautiful winter wonderland during our colder months. However, I must say that we have the most beautiful winter wedding locations that are Colorado-inspired! How about a vintage snow-sport theme? Maybe a wedding right next to a chairlift with a reception in a ski lodge? Or maybe you love the idea of getting hitched in a historic cabin surrounded by evergreens? All of these are possible in our beautiful state of Colorado.

We are constantly impressed with the amazing and flawless work of Rachael Teufel and her team at Intricate Icings Cake Design. Not only is she a cake baker, she is truly an artist! Brides can give her specific direction, such as a sample of her wedding gown, and she can create a cake inspired by that. Or, event planners can share their visions and color palettes, and she can create a masterpiece using her own intuition and design talent.
Rachael Teufel is an award winning cake designer – she competed on Food Network Challenge three times, placing second on two episodes, Roller Derby Cakes and Mardi Gras Cakes. She finally took home the grand prize in her last appearance on Food Network Challenge: Halloween Ghost Stories in October 2011. She has been designing cakes for over 12 years and is known for being totally involved in the entire process, from design concepts to final details.
We love working with Rachael and think you will too!
Chill, cool, music-loving, and lovable. All words that make us think of Kristin and Josh. The focus of this wedding was for guests to feel cozy while eating, drinking and being merry – all with a little southern Louisiana style!
The wedding took place at the historic Manor House in Littleton, Colorado. Kristin felt this venue brought the best of both worlds together — an old southern style mansion grounded in the middle of the gorgeous Colorado mountains.
The ceremony setting was soft and cozy, incorporating eclectic vintage white chairs for guests, fluffy ferns down the aisle, and soft white and pink flowers sprawling over the arch they stood under. The venue was filled with lanterns, vintage elements, soft florals, and cute signs with adorable quotes about love, family, and friendship –all made by the mother of the bride.
After a traditional New Orleans second line to start the dancing off right, guests enjoyed a rockin’ band, good food, and beautiful Colorado weather! We absolutely enjoyed working with this couple and were thrilled to see her visions come to life!

We are thoughtfully reminiscing about all of the amazing weddings of this past season, and looking forward to all of the weddings still to come! We have seen many seasons come and go, and many styles change along the years. Let’s look at some hairstyles we think will be big for next year!
A large braided bun with blunt cut doll bangs will keep you looking polished and youthful. Bohemian style is a perfect option for the outdoor wedding. Attaching flower buds into a braid or adding a feather-and-flower pin to your messy and luscious bun gives it a casual yet decadent feeling. And this braid!! We are loving this loose, yet strategic, braid that waterfalls across her back.
We LOVED working with Kristen and Jeff for two years to design and plan their gorgeous Crooked Willow Farms wedding. Kristen was so creative and we loved finding adorable rustic vintage details to include in their wedding day. We couldn’t wait to see their wedding come together and witness such a wonderful couple get married.
The ceremony details included a lovely ribbon backdrop with a chalkboard program listing the wedding party and ceremony details. The aisle was lined with beautiful candles and wildflowers in mason jars. Cocktail hour on the outdoor terrace was absolutely perfect with all of the wildflowers blooming. Guests picked out their DIY kraft paper escort cards as they entered the barn for dinner and dancing. Guest tables were lined with burlap table runners, metal candle lanterns and log slices adorned with candles and mason jars full of flowers. The dessert tables was a big hit along with the s’mores station that was set outside for guests to enjoy. The night ended with a sparkler exit as the bride and groom left in a gorgeous vintage rolls royce.
We wish Kristen and Jeff a lifetime of love, adventure and happiness! We will miss working with you and your wonderful families!
